Makers Academy
Developing Future Engineer’s Skills

Our society relies on the contribution of the scientific and engineering community to tackle complex problems and create systems and products that meet its needs. Similarly, companies require professionals with a solid foundation in terms of technical knowledge but who also have the ability to analyse problems in a systemic and transdisciplinary way, to work in a team, and have ability to Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate (CDIO) in the enterprise and in the social environment.

The Makeademy project aims to innovate existing engineering study programmes by developing the flexible modular and widely available Makeademy program, centered on the CDIO approach, in order to provide students with the skills needed to address current professional and global challenges.

Makeademy wants to:

  • improve the university engineering studies while creating and developing a widely available and flexible framework of study module;
  • develop the transdisciplinary oriented study materials applicable to a wide range of engineering disciplines, in which engineers are involved in all phases of a product life cycle;
  • develop the hardware production skills of university students through prototyping study material;

  • make developed study materials publicly available via Open Educational Resources (OER) & Future Engineers E-Learning Platform;

  • test & improve created project results while training the first generation of HE students through a learning, teaching, training event that will be hosted by Vilnius Tech in 2023.

Makeademy is for:

Universities wishing to enrich their engineering courses with an innovative study module

Students who intend to prepare for a world of work in constant transformation by acquiring skills for innovation

Makerspaces that want to strengthen their infrastructures through an offer of open educational resources

All creative people who want to learn rapid prototyping techniques

Makeademy will make available 4 different resources:

The Framework of a Study Module Makeademy

The Framework enables universities to have a practice-oriented study programme that better meets the labour market needs. It also helps to improve the skills of HEIs teachers and engage the students with the study process.

Open Educational Resource for Creative Innovators
This OER will improve abilities to foster students' creativity & creative business development. Also, it will result in new soft skills for engineering students & increased entrepreneurial skills and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Open Educational Resource for Skills Development: Everything about Prototyping

This OER on rapid prototyping will improve students’ technical skills, provide better knowledge of what the labour market needs, and also will foster digital fabrication and use of digital tools.

Future Engineers' e-Learning Platform

The E-learning platform will ensure free and easy access for all project results. A wider audience of HEIs teachers and students will have access to created materials.

The “Student business idea development roadmap” is the basis of the Makeademy program

Project meeting in Barcelona

We are envisioning the Makeademy learning program as a journey through which university students, especially those enrolled in engineering study programmes, with the support of teachers and facilitators, can experience the development of a business idea in a practical way using a mix of learning methods and prototyping techniques.

The first result of the Makeademy project is a “Student business idea development roadmap” which aims to provide guidance to Higher Education Institutions to implement the Makeademy study module into the university study programs and organize it according to their needs.
